Moorish architecture is a style influenced by North African Berber traditions and from pre-Islamic Roman, Byzantine and Visigothic architectures.

Many examples proudly adorn Southern Spain and Northern Africa. None more so than the spectacular Alhambra perched high on the hills surrounding Granada. We stay within walking distance of this masterpiece with each guestroom overlooking the the famed Sierra Nevada Mountains.

Such wonderful examples of beauty have led to breathless quotes from the many who have visited. “I do not know what to call this land upon which I stand. If what is beneath my feet is paradise, then what is the Alhambra? Heaven?”

The Andalusia capital of Seville represents the beating drum of the region. Roaming the streets of Plaza De Espana, visiting Real Alcazar, viewing flamenco in a backstreet theatre and tasting unique morsels from the area, is to live life as the locals do each day.

A visit to the region would not be complete without exploring Cordoba and Mezquita de Cordoba. A place of worship that has been both a Mosque and a Church and back again many times. It presently depicts both faiths – a testament to the locals harmonious existence.

Throughout our Springtime journey we will be captivated by many sights and sounds, unmistakable smells of spice and saffron and the spectacular flavours of the various cuisines. Morocco’s visual feast of highlights include Marrakech’s Jemma El Fna and Souk, Ben Yousseff Medressa and a visit to Richard Brandon’s Kasbah Tamadot.

It is understandable why so many famous people were inspired by Marrakech and the reason it became the backdrop for Yves Saint- Laurent’s Jardin Marjorelle and his new museum, dedicated to the designer’s legacy. All of this while residing at one of the world’s legendary establishments, La Mamounia.

Equally memorable is the jewel in Morocco’s crown, Fes. Staying at a traditional Riad, we overlook the city’s Medina where daily trade takes place beneath our very feet. Local artisan ceramics, leather tanning, a visit to nearby Meknes plus a tour of the local Medina allow for a fitting end to the day with a drink from our Riad’s rooftop bar.
